Diamond Offshore Drilling Internationals’ 60,700 tonne semi-submersible drilling rig, the Ocean GreatWhite arrived in Loch Kishorn in January 2019 for a 10 week period. She is one of the largest semi-submersible drilling rig’s in the world and was anchored in the loch during her mobilisation programme.
Kishorn Port provided a supply base for the rig over a two month period where it underwent preparations for an upcoming contract. With a draft of over 23 metres, the rig required a deep water location for anchoring in order to complete the task. The Ocean GreatWhite took advantage of the deep sheltered waters of Loch Kishorn before she moved north to undertake a drilling programme for Siccar Point Energy in the harsh Atlantic environment West of Shetland.
Ferguson Transport & Shipping provided marine agency support while she was at anchor. This included the supply of support vessels, waste management, the co-ordination of cargo and personnel on/off the rig, stevedoring, road logistical support to name a few.
